ABOUT THE 15-Minute NOIR SHORT FILM

CHRISTIAN PESCHKEN

A black-and-white photo of a man with disheveled hair and a serious expression, standing outdoors in front of leafless trees and a large building with many windows, wearing a jacket and scarf.

The short film The Silence Within is a project initiated by filmmaker and producer Christian Peschken, created in collaboration with the Oberberg Clinic in Schlangenbad and under the professional supervision of Chief Physician Dr. Tobias Freyer.

MUSIC BY MICHAEL MOOG DE MEDICI

This 15-minute production employs a striking visual contrast to powerful effect: all scenes featuring the protagonist (portrayed by actor and pianist Michael Moog de Medici) were shot on analog 16mm black-and-white film, capturing the raw emotional depth of his depression. In contrast, scenes involving Dr. Freyer were filmed in crisp digital 4K, creating a clear, clinical, and subtly detached perspective.

A news crew films outside a building with three people in winter clothing, one woman and two men, near a car, with a wooded hillside in the background.

FILMING OUTSIDE THE CLINIC

The Silence Within will be presented in multiple language versions at international film festivals and made available as part of a curated short film package on Amazon Prime.

FILMING INSIDE THE CLINIC

A black and white image of a man with dark, curly hair and a serious expression, standing in front of a shadowed window, with his face partially lit.

The film will also be provided free of charge to organizations and educational institutions dedicated to mental health awareness. Guests of the Oberberg Clinic, whether participants in the production or interested viewers, may request a complimentary DVD or digital download.

Accompanying the short film is a 15-minute documentary entitled Behind the Theme, offering exclusive behind-the-scenes insights into the making of the project. It chronicles the creative process, from navigating technical challenges to key artistic decisions.

The documentary features personal reflections from director Christian Peschken, who speaks about his vision and the film’s execution, as well as expert commentary from Dr. Freyer, who provides psychological context. Contributions from project participants, sharing their impressions and experiences, along with a candid reflection from Michael Moog de Medici on his intense engagement with the role, round out this compelling companion piece. Behind the Theme not only enriches the viewing experience but also serves as an important contribution to raising awareness about depression—offering heartfelt personal perspectives, professional expertise, and a rare glimpse into the creative journey behind The Silence Within.
